Global Plasma Solutions Info

Why is it safe to be inside at READ Learning Center?

READ Learning Center has taken the following measures to provide the safest environment possible for our staff and students:

1. Installed Global Plasma Solutions (GPS) Units in every air conditioning unit. In addition to many other features, these units produce safe ions (no ozone) that go into the space and seek pathogens to disrupt their RNA/DNA to render them inert. Please see the 3 minute video in the link below for information.

2. Doubled outside airflow as recommended by the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) to maximize outside air in spaces. The current HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) System ventilation rates are designed for 34-58 students per classroom. Since there will be approximately 6-12 people in a classroom at any given time, by doubling the outside airflow, we are providing 5-10 times the outside airflow normally required for a classroom.

3. Installed MERV 14 Filters in every Air Conditioning unit. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. For example, to achieve MERV-13, a filter has to catch 90% of particles in the 3-10 µm range, 85% of particles in the 1-3 µm range (where PM2. 5 is), and 50% of particles in the range 0.3-1 µm range (the really, really small stuff). MERV 13 is the minimum recommended by ASHRAE but we went even further to ensure the safety of our staff and students. In addition, the GPS systems enhance the filtration capability of the filters. Independent tests have shown that a MERV 8 filter with GPS is more effective than MERV 13 filters alone. Extrapolating from those tests, the filtration ability of these systems is equivalent to MERV 16 or MERV 17 that hospitals use in surgical suites.
