Summer Program & Enrollment Information

About READ Learning Center Summer Program

Our 4-week summer intensive combines structured literacy instruction with daily activities that make learning feel like camp. Students receive small group instruction in reading, writing, and math using proven Orton-Gillingham methods (Wilson and Barton), while afternoons bring outdoor games, arts and crafts, and projects that keep kids engaged and happy.

The program runs July 6-30, 2026, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Extended care is available before 8:30 AM and as late as 4:00 PM each day for families who need it.

Why Summer Instruction Matters

Research shows students lose 2–3 months of reading skills during summer break. For students with dyslexia and reading difficulties, the loss is 3–4x greater than their peers. And it compounds every year.

Our data confirms it. READ Learning Center tracks student progress using TOWRE (Test of Word Reading Efficiency) assessments. Students who attended our summer program maintained their gains year-over-year, while students who skipped summer showed measurable regression each fall.

Summer Program Students Retained 3x More Skills

Key Finding

Students who skipped the summer program lost an average of 14 points on TOWRE assessments, while students who attended lost only 5.5 points. That represents a 60% reduction in summer learning loss.

Data based on TOWRE-2 scaled scores. Assessments administered at start and end of each school year.

What Families Say

"This was not what I'd consider usual summer school. My son loved it! Super engaged. Multiple classes and subjects. LOW student to teacher ratios. Lots of fun and progressed so much with great testing results to prove it."

— D.W.

"She has been there for the summer program, as well as a regular school year — she LOVES it. She has gone from not wanting to go to school, to thriving. Her confidence is higher."

— READ Academy Parent

"Max had a great time in the writing class this past summer. I felt it reinforced what he had learned. His tutor was great."

— J.Y.

"My daughter attended Read Academy for two years as a freshman and sophomore as well as summer school. It made all the difference in helping her get caught up to grade level in reading and writing."
